What Year Currency Do the Pens Work On?

The Dri Mark Smart Money Counterfeit Bill Detector Pen for Use with U.S. Currency works on all new design United States currency printed from 1959 and onward because of how the currency was made. Bills older than 1959 will not have the chemical to detect counterfeit or not by using the pen. The reality is that this shouldn’t be a problem based on the current market and cash transactions.

How Does the Mark Work on the Bill?

All you have to do is draw on a bill with the counterfeit bill detector pen and one of two lines will show up – an amber line indicating the currency is real or a black line indicating it may be suspect. The line that is drawn on the currency will fade and disappear if the bill is real. However, if it’s fake, then the counterfeit bill will have the black line on it permanently to denote that it is not real.
