How Does a Pneumatic Stool or Chair Work?

A pneumatic stool or chair has a single cylinder that’s filled with air. The chamber is affixed to a piston that moves when the user pushes on a lever. This action compresses the air inside of the chamber and causes the seat to rise. When the piston is moved even further out of the chamber, the air swells inside and the seat can be lowered. The amount of air inside of the cylinder can also be adjusted to make the movement of the seat less or more forceful.
